Recipe News: Earn extra points with these Super Bowl recipes

"Do Super Bowl parties set themselves apart from other gatherings of friends and family?
These annual events do seem to have a cachet of their own that mostly involves the burning of calories by hooting, hollering, wailing and fist-pumping. And let's not forget the flexibility required to survive four quarters: hoisting a cold one, leaping from the sofa, lunging at the TV and the delicate balancing act of carrying a mountainous amount of food on a small plate across a room.
It's hard for me to take this party seriously, since I'm not a football fan. Each year that I do this story, I have to ask someone in our sports department what teams are playing. Still, it's fun to come up with appetizers that can turn a Super Bowl party into an opportunity: Find a recipe that disappears quickly and you've got a keeper."

  • Homemade Barbecue Potato Chips

  • Pulled Pork Lasagna

  • Muffuletta

Recipe News: Blueberry-Pomegranate Protein Smoothie

"Sports drinks can be so much more — and so much healthier — than those brightly colored, sugar drinks sold alongside the sodas.

Those drinks are fine for hydration, which is essential for a healthy workout. But when you've just finished exerting yourself, what your body really craves is a good jolt of carbohydrates and protein, and a protein shake is a delicious and satisfying way to get it.

Carbohydrates replenish your supply of glycogen, which is the fuel stored in your muscles that powers physical activity. Protein helps your body repair muscles after strenuous exercise."
