Coffee News: Coke Brewing A Hot Coffee Putsch

Coca-Cola is making a run at hot coffee. Coke spokesman Andras Kallos tells Forbes that the company "is working on new initiatives for growth, and freshly brewed beverages certainly play a big part."

On Thursday, Peter Slatin, editor of the Forbes/Slatin Real Estate Report, reported that Coke was opening a 4,000 square-foot store in Toronto, suggesting that Coke Coca-Cola (nyse: KO - news - people ) is testing the retail waters and perhaps looking to create a chain of establishments similar to the venerable one Starbucks (nasdaq: SBUX - news - people ) has already built. But Coke will have a lot of catching up to do with Starbucks in terms of ambiance."
