Wine News: A lesson in how to buy sparkling wine

"For many, a sparkling wine is essential to ring in the New Year.

Texans will celebrate New Year’s Eve with a wide variety of traditions and beverages, and one of them is champagne — or sparkling wine.

“To be called champagne, it has to come from Champagne, France,” said Jason Falk, manager of Spec’s Liquors in League City. “But we know when you ask for champagne that you’re asking for sparkling wine.”

Sparkling wines come in a wide variety of sweetness levels and prices, so connoisseurs suggest that you let the store salesperson know what’s within your budget in order to get the best advice for your celebration."
