Food News: Americans Digging Deeper into Pockets for Meals
"While waiting for a table at a restaurant last week, I listened as a couple of guys talked prices: gasoline prices.
"There's $1.99 over at the circle," one fellow said merrily.
"There's $1.96 on the highway," the second replied.
"Coming down," they agreed as they chatted about oil companies, politics and the cost of a gallon of gas in other parts of the world. It was a conversation of relief and gratitude: The days of three-buck gallons here at the Jersey Shore are gone, at least for the moment.
But $30 entrees in restaurants are here to stay, it appears, and that's not going to be the foreseeable ceiling."
