Wine News: Taste-off: Is a pricey wine worth the dough?

"We get asked a lot of questions about wine, but the one we get asked the most doesn’t have a simple answer: What’s the difference between a cheap wine and an expensive wine?

The smart-aleck answer is “the price,” but sometimes that’s also the right answer – as you’ll see by our own attempts to find the answer.

The issue seems simple, but really has two facets: The question could mean, “What makes an expensive wine cost more?” or it could mean, “What’s the difference in taste?”

We can tell you the answer to the first question, but for the second one we decided to do a head-to-head taste-off: Two cheap cabernet sauvignons versus a really expensive one. Expensive to us, at least."
