Wine News: Nothing like a good white wine to beat the summer heat

"WHEN LAST WE met, I was worrying aloud about our new backyard table, complete with giant umbrella. Little did I know that Mrs. Olken had also purchased a new set of chairs. Or I should say an old set of chairs, wrought iron with grape motif and much in need of repair.
Even in their semi-reincarnated state, they helped set the scene for a magnificent long-cooked brisket in the Texas style.
The thing about summertime barbecue is that we tend to think it all must be heavy meats like brisket or sausages. But recently I tasted an exquisite preparation of salmon, and was reminded again that we do not live by red meat alone.
The salmon tasted like it had been lightly poached and lightly smoked. I cannot think of a better mate for a mid-sized sauvignon blanc. "
